# Dashboards

> Chart logs, spans, and metrics on a shared grid, filter it with variables, and export it to Terraform.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Telemetry is in early access. To turn it on for your workspace, [book a call](https://cal.com/superlog/yc) or ask in [Discord](https://discord.gg/wJ56aRh8hx).

**Explore → Dashboards** lists the workspace's dashboards with their widget count and when they last changed. Every member of the workspace sees the same dashboards.

Click **New dashboard**, enter a name, and click **Create dashboard**.

## Widgets

Click **Add widget**. The editor shows a live preview as you change settings. Choose one of three kinds:

| Kind | Reads | Shows |
| - | - | - |
| **Chart** | **Logs**, **Spans**, or a **Metric** | A value over time, a single number, bars, or a table. |
| **List** | **Logs** or **Traces** | The most recent matching records. |
| **Note** | | Markdown text: headings, lists, links, bold, and code. |

### Chart settings

* **Measure** (logs and spans): **Count**, **Distinct values**, **Sum**, **Average**, **Minimum**, **Maximum**, **Median**, or the 90th, 95th, or 99th percentile. Anything other than a count reads a **Field**: an attribute, or for spans the **Duration** or an AI usage field such as **Cost** or **Input tokens**.
* **Metric** and **Aggregation** (metrics): pick a metric, then keep **Default for the metric** or choose an aggregation. See [Metrics](https://docs.superlog.sh/telemetry/metrics.md#aggregation).
* **Display**: **Over time**, **Number**, **Bars**, or **Table**.
* **Group by**: **Service**, an attribute, or for spans **AI model** or **AI provider**. Set how many **Series** or **Rows** to keep, up to 50.
* **Filters**: an attribute, a comparison (**is**, **is not**, **does not contain**), and a value. Up to 50 per widget.
* **Unit**: **Number**, **Milliseconds**, **Seconds**, **Bytes**, **Percent**, or **US dollars**.
* Over time: **Bars** or **Lines**, and a **Legend** placed **Below** or **Beside**.
* Number, bars, and table: **Compare with the previous period**.

**Title** is optional. Without one, the widget is named from its settings.

### List settings

Set **Rows** up to 500 for logs or 200 for traces, and add filters. Click a trace, or a log that has a trace ID, to open the trace.

## Layout

Widgets sit on a 12-column grid. Drag a widget by its header to move it, and drag its corner to resize it. Changes save on their own. On narrow screens widgets stack in one column.

Use the pencil icon to edit a widget and the trash icon to remove it.

## Time range

The time picker works as in [Logs](https://docs.superlog.sh/telemetry/logs.md#time-range). A range that ends now reloads every widget on its own while the page is open. Drag across a chart to zoom into that window, and use **Zoom out** to go back.

## Variables

Variables add dropdowns above the widgets, such as an environment or service picker. Open the **⋯** menu and click **Add variable** (or **Variables** once there are some).

| Setting | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Name** | Letters, digits, and underscores, starting with a letter. Widgets refer to it as `$name`. |
| **Label** | The text shown on the dropdown. |
| **Attribute** | The attribute the variable filters, such as `deployment.environment`. The dropdown lists its values seen in the time range, with counts. |
| **Options** | Fixed choices, separated by commas. |
| **Allow several values** | Lets you pick more than one value. |
| **Default** | The value selected when the dashboard opens. With options, it must be one of them. |

To use a variable in a widget, add a filter with the value `$name` or `${name}`, or click **Filter by \$name** in the widget editor. When nothing is selected, the filter matches every value.

A variable with no options, no attribute, and one value is a text field.

## Share a dashboard

The page URL holds the time range and the selected variable values, so a link opens the same view for anyone in the workspace.

## Export to Terraform

Open the **⋯** menu and click **Copy as Terraform**. Superlog copies configuration for the `superloglabs/superlog` Terraform provider, with an import block so applying it adopts the existing dashboard instead of creating a copy.

To export from a script, call `GET /terraform` on the [management API](https://docs.superlog.sh/api-reference/introduction.md) or the `export_terraform` MCP tool. Without IDs it exports every alert, dashboard, and synthetic check. Pass `dashboardIds` to export only those.

## Manage dashboards from an agent

The [MCP server](https://docs.superlog.sh/api-reference/mcp.md) can list, create, change, and delete dashboards and widgets.

## Rename or delete a dashboard

Open the **⋯** menu and click **Rename** or **Delete dashboard**. Deleting a dashboard removes it and its widgets for everyone in the workspace.
